Theme:
Political success is the symbolic culmination of many Japanese American accomplishments throughout the last 50 years. Two local individuals have been a great influence for future generations of Japanese Americans through their endeavors. Senator Daniel Inouye and Representative Patsy Takemoto Mink were the first Japanese American man and woman elected into Congress. They have overcome many challenges through hard work and determination. As role models they have shown us that race and gender are no longer obstacles. Senator Inouye has had a direct impact on my life by providing funding to my organization's tele-health initiatives. These two Japanese Americans have demonstrated that with perseverence, all dreams are possible.
