Growing up, my grandparents instilled in me the importance of family and respect. On a daily basis, I honor departed loved ones by upholding the values passed down to me. Our family gathers every year to observe the Obon season and welcome our ancestors home. Obon became even more meaningful to me once my grandparents were gone. By perpetuating the tradition of Obon, I feel connected to my family and the many generations that have come before me. Commemorating those who have passed, we allow their memories to live on so that they can be shared with others. Through Obon, I have a continued bond with my grandparents and am able to show gratitude for my family and heritage.
